online journals...

i love the way that the internet makes all people anonymous. i love it and i hate it. i can do things like this, which i do in real life as can other people who might not. people open up since they don't really know if anyone will bother to read what they have written. i think it is amazing what people will tell you about their lives, little details that make life really interesting. i hate the way that it still seems to distance people from each other despite sharing all of the details of their life. for me, there is something so much more personal about someone telling you what they want to tell you with no prompting or proding on your part. of course, i wish that people would talk more and share more, but that is ok. perhaps that too will come with time.

hey, if you have a journal or a weblog, i would love to know where it is. i mean, for some of my friends it is the only way that i really have to keep up with them.

under construction...

working on the site today. no guarentees that anything will work right.

edit: ok, things should be back to normal. everything should be using the same look finally (8 months later, yeah yeah). in addition new picture is up.

considerations...

upon talking to lo5an about moveabletype, i am considering spending a great deal of time moving my site to a different content management system. some of the neatest features are trackback, which enables peer-to-peer communication between MT blogs, the ability to import all of my old blogger posts, in addition to my greymatter posts, categories for posting for organization of content, blah blah blah. all told it is a much more robust system than the one i am currently using, and it gives me something to work on. besides it works with the idea that i have where i want to provide a space for other people to post as well. anyway, that will have to wait for tomorrow.

movabletype

well, i started working on moving the site over to movabletype. it looks like i will be able to do this with little problem and i think that i should have the site moved over to the new system by friday. at that point i will starting to work on a public weblog for other people to use as well (if anyone would be interested in such a thing). i think that the new system will be much better overall, i just have to get it there.

config hell...

movabletype configuration hell right now. i didn't have any trouble importing in my blogger archives, but i will be waiting to import my greymatter archives until i get all the templates up and running. all i have to say is that movabletype is one fine program.

i think that i am going to go out and get new glasses tomorrow. my eyes kind of hurt. off for wednesday night at bodhisatva's. after i grab some dinner that is.

movabletype upgrade rolls on...

so far, i have the completed about 40% of the migration to movabletype. the main page is working as expected as is the individual archive page. i still have a ton of stuff to work on: the comment preview page, the comment error page, the archive index pages, and more. then i will need to categorize all of the 400+ posts that i have made over the last 2 years. this will be a work in progress mostly, as it will take me many hours to make sense of everything that i have written over the last couple of months. all told, i think that if i really buckle down, i should be able to get the site moved over tomorrow (integrated archiving!!) and then work on the categories all weekend. by the time i start back to work on monday i want to have this all wrapped up, as i will be cutting a good deal of my day out. love them vacations!!

site conversion...

ok, i am starting the conversion to movabletype right now. the links are probably going to be busted for a while. my apologies for that.

finshed with so much more to do...

so the conversion is complete for the most part. all of this site is now running using movabletype i still have some work to do, getting everything into categories and the then setting up the category archive pages. but other than that we are good to go.

images and new design...

well, another night later than i anticipated... i worked on the images section and got it to a state of completeness that i was not expecting. i decided to upload a couple of chunks of pictures including my 1999 trip to seattle and the snow (smow) pictures circa 2000, norman oklahoma. i am pretty happy with the way things are looking which is good considering the time that has already gone into the page so far. the new images section should be a whole lot easier to update, which should encourage me to upload more pictures as i think about it.

i was intending to start work on my implicit surface modeler for the ps2, but got sidetracked with this stuff. well, there is always tomorrow, and if i finish up the web stuff this week, i can write the majority of the code for the modeler to work on the pc (so the rest of you can play with the shiney) before i do the port and optimizations for the ps2. it would be really nice to get some personal stuff done while off next week.

shit...

i should just get up in the middle of this and go to bed. personal information and singlepost page are updated to the new site look as well. i will probably finish this up tomorrow, barring any craziness that i can expect but not anticipate.
